NT Live
On 25th June Bow Tie television kicked off the start of the
National Theatre - NTLive season, broadcasting the first ever live
High Definition production of a stage play from the National
Theatre. Phedre, starring Helen Mirren, was beamed live via
satellite for one night only to around 200 cinemas across the UK
and Europe using 5.1 surround sound. The performance was also
transmitted or relayed across America, South Africa and Australia.
This gave the cinema audience the same enhanced experience that
they would have had if they had been in the theatre. The pilot
received fantastic reviews from audiences and the media alike.
Three more plays this season will be beamed to audiences
worldwide.
